Last year 557 eighth and 11th grade students and 43 companies attended the Elevate and Explore event held by Bryan City Schools.
Bryan High School will be hosting its second annual Elevate and Explore interactive event on Oct. 23 from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Bryan High School at 1000 Fountain Grove.
This year more than 450 seniors and junior students from around Williams County are scheduled to attend who will have the opportunity to interact with currently more that 40 companies in all different career options.
Currently the companies attending specialize in architecture and construction; higher education both two and four year; manufacturing; human services and cosmetology; agriculture, food and natural resources; finance specializing in accounting and banking; public safety; health science; information technology; business management and administrations including real estate; and transportation, distribution and logistics in warehousing.
"This event is designed to provide students with essential exposure to a variety of career paths, equipping them with knowledge and inspiration needed for their future endeavors," said Karyn Cox, director of teaching & learning at Bryan City Schools.
Cox noted interactive career fairs offer students a unique opportunity to engage directly with professionals across a wide variety of industries. This exposure not only helps students understand the skills and qualifications required for various roles, but also empowers them to make informed decisions about their educational career pathways.
"By facilitating networking opportunities, interactive career fairs enable students to build connections with industry leaders, which can lead to internships and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, through hands-on activities and workshops, students will develop essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving ~ key competencies that employers seek," Cox said.
"We believe that showcasing a wide range of career options encourages students to think beyond traditional paths, inspiring them to pursue their passions with renewed enthusiasm. Furthermore, those events strengthen out partnerships with local businesses, fostering community support for education," Cox added.
A northwest regional liaison from Lt. Gov. Jon Husted's Office is scheduled to attend the event.
