The Williams County Land Reutilization Corp. (land bank) was recently awarded a state brownfield grant to assess a property for remediation.
The agency will receive $54,186 to perform environmental assessments and an asbestos-containing material survey on a building at 325 W. High St. in Bryan, which was previously a school and a portion of which is now vacant. It is where the Arts and Education building is currently located.
Once the assessment is complete, the site will be cleared for potential brownfield remediation and redevelopment.
Bryan City Schools Superintendent Mark Rairigh said the assessment will especially be done in the south half of the building.
The land bank had submitted three properties, totaling $1 million, for this round of brownfield funding. There are currently no plans for the building at 325 W. High St., but the assessments need done before something can move forward.
