New playground equipment ready at Edon park

EDON — The Village of Edon has a new set of playground equipment installed this week.

Village officials have been working to revitalize Walz Park for several years.

The first stage of revitalization included installing wooden playground equipment, which was completed in 2022.

The second stage is for all-inclusive playground equipment.

“They got the new playground equipment set, they got the base coat down,” said Councilman Lee Lawrence.

He added the workers were expecting to get the final coat down Monday evening.

“(Tuesday) morning we should be able to walk on it,” Lawrence said. “It’s not as big as Bryan, but for a little town like us, I think we are way ahead of everybody else.”

Separately, council also passed an ordinance establishing various no parking zones in the village.

One was on the west side of Bunny Lane and in the turnaround, which is next to the village’s baseball and softball fields.

Parking there has been a topic of discussion for several years, with resident Deanne Warren saying her property is consistently blocked by traffic during the baseball and softball seasons.

“I have made contact with the summer ball league to advise them of the changes to parking on Bunny Lane, so they know ahead of time,” Edon Police Chief Tom Szymczak said. “They didn’t seem too up in arms over it. They had already heard about it and I had explained about why it was.”

Other areas included in the no parking zones are:

• North Michigan Street north of Park Street.

• South Michigan Street south of Indiana Street.

• East Indiana Street east of Church Street.

• West Indiana Street west of Union Street (except during funeral services and/or visitation).

• Derbyshire Street and Webster Street.

• In the village parking lot on East Indiana Street for 72 consecutive hours.

• In the business district, except in marked parking spaces, where parking is limited to two hours on Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and no parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

• Any uncurbed street.

The ordinance passed with suspension of the rules requiring three readings.
