The Williams County Port Authority Monday discussed how to proceed with a list of vacant lots in the county.
Ashley Epling, authority secretary, said she had exported a PDF list of vacant lots in the county (received from the county treasurer) into a spreadsheet file, allowing for easy sorting and asked what the next step should be.
Stacy Lillard, authority member, said the best idea would probably be to send a letter to the property owners of all the lots, as it would take too much time to otherwise research all the properties.
Dawn Fitzcharles, authority vice chair, said the board had already gathered a similar list several years ago.
“It was sorted by community, it was sent to the communities and the communities responded back,” she said.
Sean Rupp, authority member, added that was how the board got its first set of lots to build on.
Fitzcharles said she would send the information already gathered to Lillard to compare.
She said owners may not want to part with some of the lots, as they would be connected to the owner’s house.
“I’d rather spend money on a stamp than go through each one to discover that,” Lillard said.
Separately, the authority voted to temporarily allow Fitzcharles or Rupp to sign documents on behalf of Dave Newcomer, board chair. Rupp suggested, and the board approved, this be allowed until Sept. 30.
In other business, the authority:
• Went into executive session to discuss purchase of property. Afterward, the authority approved pursuing purchase of lots on Daniel and South Michigan streets in Edgerton.
• Approved invoices from SW Hardware in the amount of $391.26. The materials were purchased for construction of a house at 504 Curtis St., Stryker.
• Heard from Fitzcharles that contractors made some returns to the Defiance Menards, giving the authority a credit of $191.
• Moved to adopt Ohio Revised Code 4582.60 into the authority’s bylaws. With this adoption, if at least three board members are present in person, one can attend the meeting remotely and still vote. That person would need to be in the U.S.
