Supplies sought for hurricane relief

Williams County OSU Extension is asking for help providing assistance to those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Extension is partnering with Ag Community Relief to provide mostly agricultural supplies to those in the South that were in the path of destruction from the hurricane.

“We’re really concentrating on the agricultural community in the affected areas,” said Kayla Wyse of Williams County OSU Extension.

The Williams County commissioners Tuesday gave approval for a trailer to be parked at the East Annex parking lot, 1425 E. High St., Bryan. Wyse said the trailer will be there now through Oct. 23. As it is filled with supplies, it will be driven south.

“We have a warehouse in Tennessee set up,” Wyse said.

Monetary donations can also be made to an account created at F&M Bank, with $1,000 in seed money contributed by Current Office Solutions and the Terry Rummel family.

Wyse said two other trailers will also be located at Ace Hardware in Wauseon, 1495 N. Shoop Ave., and the old Edon fire station, 201 S. Michigan St.

Last week, Karie McDonald of Williams County OSU Extension told the commissioners there are already 250 bales of straw pledged from Fulton County to be delivered as part of the relief effort.

She also told the commissioners OSU Extension is working on getting the various 4-H and FFA clubs in the county to help with raising supplies.

“A lot of the need right now is monetary because of the logistics of getting things to them is still kind of iffy,” McDonald said last week.
