Those who are local to the West Unity area may recognize the name Trinity Specialty Compounding. For over 20 years this name has called West Unity home.
The company was officially formed back in 1998 and was up and running in 1999. However, the name Trinity was recently changed to Benvic after the company was purchased.
For those who don’t know, Trinity Specialty Compounding, now Benvic Trinity LLC, works to customize and create polymers for their customers. Currently, some of their projects revolve around clean energy and its storage.
This includes EV batteries and other clean energy technology. Additionally, telecommunications is a big deal right now. Fiber optic cables are an especially special product the company helps with.
The be clear though, the company does not make any of these end products. Benvic Trinity creates the polymers needed by other companies, that will then be used to create the product being worked on, with the ultimate goal being to “redesign plastics for good”
Plant Manager Eric Langham explained that even though there has been a name change, they are still the same people.
“We were Trinity Specialty Compounding for over 20 years. Now the sign says Benvic. We are still the same people to the core.”
“With the change, we have added more people in to help us grow and everything looks like it will only continue that way. We like what we do, and we want to create.” Mr. Langham has been with the company since 2006.
Throughout the conversations held between Benvic and The Village Reporter it was made clear that the company wished to get their new name out and grow further with the community. Ted Walkowski, Director of Technology and one of the principal owners when Trinity was founded, explained this best.
“We are interested in contributing and being a part of the community. We have done so by sponsoring local high school sports and we would like to get even more involved with the community.”
“We have also participated in co-op programs with local universities like the University of Toledo and Trine University. We also work with local Chambers of Commerce and are members of WEDCO.”
Mr. Walkowski also spoke a bit about his company. The business started at just around 22,000 square feet with the first line running back in 1999. Now, the factory is sized at 126,000 square feet and has five lines that run three shifts.
An innovative trial line is also a part of the equation and helps the company work with customers to find exactly what their needs are.
“We started this company to focus on a niche market where customers weren’t being serviced and treated well. We continued to maintain that focus of being able to cater and focus on the customer’s needs.”
“The biggest thing we focus on is one-on-one relationships with our customers, so we can be better able to solve their problems.”
“When a customer comes to us with a particular project they are working on, we work with them hand in hand to help do the research and development, to come up with a solution to their problem.”
“This is the basic model of how we have always worked. We are a small company with a head count of around 42 but we can compete with the bigger companies.”
